The Concept
The proposed evolutionary architectural-constructive system is conceived through the repetition of a simple formal-functional module with dimensions of 4.8 × 4.8 × 4.4 meters. The module is inspired by Plato’s cube and minimalist sculptures (e.g., Donald Judd), whose repetition generates multiple formal-functional solutions while preserving the poetic quality of abstract geometric forms.
Modularity as Composition
Five different models have been designed to achieve various spatial and visual relationships with the context: one-sided, two-sided, multi-sided, corner connection, and zenithal connection. With identical dimensions and made of concrete, the modules allow for various aggregations and the creation of different temporal modules as well as typologies of single-family houses. They can be organized into regular systems (I, L, U, E, F, O) and irregular spatial configurations adaptable to flat or sloped terrain.
The Solution
The modules are constructed from self-supporting three-layer concrete panels composed of: A thermal insulation layer (10 cm) between the external and internal layers, achieving the required U-value. An external non-load-bearing layer of prefabricated concrete (6 cm) with an architectural finish; An internal load-bearing concrete layer (14 cm) with a fine machine-applied finish, suitable for direct painting; A thermal insulation layer (10 cm) between the external and internal layers, achieving the required U-value.
